Holiday Entertaining | Overnight Guests

It’s that time of year! Sprucing up the guest room and making sure the house is squeaky clean for your guests. You may be having the in-laws over or maybe even a dear family friend. It’s important to make your guest feel welcome and here are a few ideas to make their stay extra special.

Make sure you have something easy and versatile for breakfast food. Everyone’s different about their first meal of the day so having fresh fruit, oatmeal, eggs or fresh pastries are great to have around. You can make your pastries if you are feeling ambitious or we love picking them up from a local coffee shop or bakery. These lovelies are from Patika, one of our favorites for delicious and unique pastries. feather your nest holiday hosting-1 feather your nest holiday hosting-2

Coffee or Tea? Again, an important start to many people’s day. Make sure you have a couple options as well as milk and sugar. Maybe even send your guest a note beforehand to make sure you have the right kind of milk– now that’s going an extra mile! Almond milk, skim, half and half, whole! There are so many options these days. feather your nest holiday hosting-4

Finally, an extra blanket at the end of the bed is important for added comfort. We also love making sure there is a good read and even a candle for some extra thoughtfulness. feather your nest holiday hosting-5

Setting the Table: Thanksgiving Harvest

In the flurry of cooking and prep work for Thanksgiving day, the place settings often become last on our priority list. We tend to stick with what we have always done year after year in hopes to save time on this step. We encourage you to plan your tablescape a few weeks before the big day as it is an important way to make your family and friends feel cherished and comfortable on this special occasion. It can also be a great creative outlet to pair old pieces with new pieces and add fresh florals or dried plants.

For our inspiration place setting this year, we have taken a favorite Juliska’s Country Estate in Pumpkin and paired it with a beautiful new set. The Juliska Acanthus in whitewash nods to timeless architectural detail with a simplicity that makes it an easy match to a more patterned plate. Natural elements such as nuts for accent and raffia for tying napkins play well with our plush velvet pumpkins. Our golden orange color palette creates an inviting and warm table for your guests. We are always happy to help you dream up tablescapes whenever you come by the store or visit us onlineFeather Your Nest | Thanksgiving 1 Feather Your Nest | Thanksgiving 2 Feather Your Nest | Thanksgiving 3 Feather Your Nest | Thanksgiving 4 Feather Your Nest | Thanksgiving 5

Happy Thanksgiving!

To get you in the spirit we are sharing our favorite apple pie recipe!

Ginger Apple Pie:

  • 2 pie crusts
  • 5-6 medium granny smith apples, peeled, & thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp freshly grated ginger
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter

Combine apple slices with ginger, cinnamon, salt and sugar. Let them sit together for a few minutes so the sugars soak in! Pour the mixture into a pie crust and top with dollops of butter. Make a lattice pattern with the second pie crust and sprinkle a little sugar on top. Place the pie in the oven for 45 minutes at 375 degrees or until the crust is golden.

Serve with ice cream and enjoy! Your guests will love the extra touch of ginger! Happy Thanksgiving!
